Exceptional Log Homes Award - Sheri & Debbie

"The house of peace"

Two women, who took the Association's 2-day log home class, built this beautiful log home.  Sheri and Debbie did almost all the work themselves, and finished the log home in about 12 months.  After living in their log home for a number of years they decided to sell it and move on.  The current owners, Dan and Patti, adore their new log home and consider it a great place to be raising their family.

Here are two fun facts about Sheri and Debbie's log home experience:

1) When they finished the shell of their home a bad windstorm swept through the region.  A large western hemlock tree was blown down and hit their log house, and it was hit dead on.  The tree was about 18" in diameter, and around 60 to 70' tall.  It caused zero structural damage to the home.  That's right, no structural damage, there was just some easily repaired cosmetic damage.

All they had to do was drag the tree off the home and replace a few boards.

2) This was not the only log home that Sheri and Debbie built.  They went on to build a log shell for a friend.  They also helped another couple of friends build their log home.  When asked if they'd ever build another log home for themselves they both said yes, but this time they'd do it a bit further out in the country where it's quiet and private.  Once you're bitten by the bug sometimes it's hard to stop.

This log home is 2 stories, and around 25' x 30'.  As near as they can recollect, it cost them around $20,000 to build their home. Zillow currently lists the value of this log home at $418,304, which seems about right in light of what other members have been selling their log homes for in this area.

Even an inexpensively built log home can have a gorgeous kitchen.

Little accessories like an antique style telephone really makes a log home seem warm and inviting.

Defying the misconception that log homes are dark, cave-like buildings, Sheri and Debbie's home is bright, light and airy.  Some of that light is cast by a skylights in the 35' tall cathedral ceiling.

Peeking out on the right side of this picture is the claw foot bathtub.  An old vintage claw foot tub can be a very nice accent piece for log homes.
