December Log Home of the Month Pictures

We recently ran into Ric Carlson, who took our class in 1974 and built this amazing log home in 1977. He recently decided to move and we caught him just as he was moving out. He was packing and there were roofers installing a new metal roof, but he still took the time to show us around and we were glad he did!

He put this incredible log home with five acres of land on the market for $485,000 and it sold almost immediately.

Ric is a masterful builder and did all of the work himself -- walls, roof, plumbing, electrical, heating, foundation, etc. He even poured his own outdoor concrete walkways and did his own landscaping. Not all of our students do these things themselves, but if doing them appeals to you, then it can be a very rewarding endeavor, both emotionally and financially.

Ric even built this massive real stone fireplace all by himself, one river rock at a time. It dominates the two and a half storey great room and makes this log home feel like a private retreat in the woods.

Ric even custom made his own stained glass light shades that match vent in the fireplace. Unbelievable!

The bay window (below, left) looks out over the front yard and driveway. The next picture window shows the guest house and green house.

And now for the kitchen. Ric made all of his own kitchen cabinets by hand over 20 years ago and they still look great and work perfectly.

Some of our students just need a place to live. Some build houses to make money.

Others treat their log home building project as an artist would treat a blank canvas. Ric definitely falls into the last category -- he is an artist and a builder.

The "exit" sign leads to the main bathroom. Go on to the next page for more pictures of this beautiful log home.

You won't believe what is down this hallway!
